Gardening Jobs for December


Winter is here, the days are short and the nights long. What precious daylight hours there have been recently have been wet, really wet, so any sunshine has been a welcome respite.

However there is still lots to do in the garden so pick your day and make the most of it!


Sow/plant:

Sweet peas

Broad beans

Bulbs for spring, it's not to late!


Harvest/pick:


Save seeds for next year

Kale, squash, leeks, salad

cabbage, carrots

Make a wreath

Keep clearing leaves to make leaf

mould


Secature/lopper jobs:

Prune vines

Cut back nerines

Prune currants

Prune buddlias by half their height

Remove yellow brussel sprout leaves

Cut down dahlias once flowering over to

lift or leave and mulch

Cut back tall asparagus foliage once

yellow


Lawns and ponds:


Raise the cutting height and only mow if required

Keep clearing leaves out of ponds


Light the fire, put your feet up and enjoy the new seed catalogues!
