The heatwave continues here in West Sussex and has meant we've had to start crack of dawn and finish earlier like on the continent!

May be it's time to really start thinking about water storage if you don't have any and drought tolerant planting? Some plants have flourished and cropped heavily in the heat and others really struggled but hey that's gardening!

Sow/Plant:

Sow beetroot, salad, radish direct

and potatoes for a Christmas crop!

Plant out leeks and brassicas.

Take pelargonium and rosemary cuttings.

Harvest:

Raspberries, blackberries, currants, courgettes, cucumbers, potatoes, beans, tomatoes and peppers.

Secateurs jobs:

Deadhead annuals and perennials after

flowering for a late summer show.

Prune wisteria, rambling roses, fruited canes of summer raspberries, lavender.

Cut back hardy geraniums and water for a

second flush.

Cut back herbs and fennel and divide clumps

of chives.

Support:

Keep tying in dahlias, raspberries and

anything else flopping over.

Mulch and Feed:

Feed tomatoes and pot displays.

Lawns:

Don't bother watering as it will green up once it has rained and raise the cutting height of the mower.

Mow wildflower meadows.

Keep watering early morning or evening and enjoy the harvest!
